REAL life superheroes were celebrated in Sheffield yesterday after being honoured in The Star's Super Kids Awards 2008.
Smiling youngsters were treated to a superhero-themed event at the Hilton Hotel on Victoria Quays.

They were honoured for their varied achievements in overcoming illness or helping kick-start their communities into action.

A glitzy ceremony saw children rubbing shoulders with South Yorkshire stars including boxers Clinton Woods and Johnny Nelson and The Bill actor Chris Walker.

A total of 12 winners were each awarded a medal and a certificate for achievements which included improving remarkably at school, or helping out at home in tough times.

The Star's editor, Alan Powell, who helped compere the event, said: "These awards really remind us that kids are not all bad.

"In fact, some of them are absolutely brilliant and it is a real honour to host this event."
