JESSICA Ennis admits her total-fitness regime in the run-up to the Beijing Olympics is a tiring and sometimes deflating experience.
The super-talented Sheffield heptathlete is due to take part in one of her least favourite disciplines, the javelin, at Derby, this weekend.
Speaking in a video interview with The Star Ennis says: "At the moment we're in quite heavy training so I am quite tired and feeling quite flat. In the next few weeks everything will come together."
Ennis took part in a javelin competiton last month.
"I've done a lot of work on strength, a lot of speed work. I am hoping I am going to get sharper."
Ennis says she is training with "quite heavy weights, running sessions and lot of technical work and plyometrics" (training designed to produce fast, powerful movements, and improve the nervous system.)
"It's just the volume really but that will decrease within the next few weeks."
The 5ft 5in athlete said it is "nice" to take part in single events, rather than the seven in heptathlon.
But she added: "I love heptathlon, it's great. If I did one event I'd be sort of looking for the next to do.
"It's nice to have a few events, if you have one that doesn't go to plan, you've got another six to try to do a bit better in."
Presently she feels "pretty confident" about the challenges ahead.
"Winter season training has been going really well, my first heptathlon will be the end of May so we will see how that goes."
Ennis admitted that August's China Olympics "creeps into my head quite a lot, because it's every athlete's ultimate goal.
"But I try to push it aside.I don't think you want to be obsessed by it. You need to get on with your training you need to get on with your competitions that are coming up. It is still a few months away so there is a lot to be done."
