The plaque forms part of the city's Walk of Fame, alongside those honouring other Sheffield greats including Michael Palin, Gordon Banks, Joe Cocker and Def Leppard.

Superstar Sean delighted the large crowd of fans who gathered by signing autographs and posing for photos with everyone who wanted one – before he dashed off for the Blades home game at Bramall Lane.

Samantha Waters, aged 16, of Stocksbridge, was left in tears after she got a kiss on the cheek. She said: "He's amazing. I love him."

Ann Kelly, 56, of Darnall, got him to sign her shopping list. She said: "It was the only thing I had for him to sign.

"He was brilliant. He went around everybody. The weather is freezing but he's taken the time to speak to everyone."
