TODAY we launch our search for the region's top sports stars – with the help of these all time greats.
Sir Bobby Robson, centre, Ray Wilson and Sir Tom Finney are backing The Star and St John Ambulance Sports Awards 2008.

We want YOU to nominate your community sports heroes, household names, clubs and companies for honours at our glittering black tie event, at Ponds Forge, Sheffield, on October 9.

England's former World Cup semi final manager Sir Bobby, aged 75, 1966 World Cup winner Ray, 73, and football's golden great Sir Tom, 86, were at Sheffield's Royal Victoria Hotel for a Star and Green Un backed dinner in aid of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, a £1 million cancer research appeal.

"The Awards are a fantastic idea to honour sports achievers,'' said Sir Bobby, an inspiration himself. He is battling cancer for the fifth time and called for donations to his Foundation at www.sirbobbyrobsonfoundation.org.uk
