Searching 4 Evidence beat four other top acts to first place and the prize of a lifetime in The Star backed cancer charities event, promoted by Dennis Hobson.

They get to record at Sheffield hitmaker Eliot's world famous city based Steelworks Studio and appear on the same bill as him and his superstar pals at Sheffield City Hall, on Wednesday, December 16.

Runners up The Ratells and The Stoops both won a recording session. The other finalists, who beat many acts to the X-Factor style live grand final, were Green Ball Flyers and Peachy.

Judges were singer songwriter Eliot and Dennis, who is also promoting the City Hall concert, The Star's Digital Editor Graham Walker and, representing the charities benefiting from the two shows, Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity's Catherine Newman and Cavendish Cancer Care's Jonny Cole.

Eliot, who has worked with Bryan Adams, Take That, The Spice Girls and other major stars, said: "Searching 4 Evidence didn't get the sympathy vote because of their age. They were awesome. I can't wait to work with them in the studio and get them on stage with me at the City Hall."

The schoolboys also raised money for the charities last night by asking for a donation in return for their new EP, Get Out.

Lead singer Lewis said: "To win this is amazing. It's way past our bedtime and school in the morning. But we can't wait to tell all our friends."
