WEST Ham United are looking to appeal against the independent tribunal finding in Sheffield United's favour in the infamous Carlos Tevez affair.
United were relelgated at the end of the 2006/2007 season largely because of the efforts of Tevez, who was illegally registered as a West Ham player. The Blades would have stayed up but for him, the moral and legal right has been with United from the
start.

It still is.

A points deduction would have been the right way to punish West Ham but the FA and the Premier League lacked the courage to do that.

No amount of money can bring back last season when United should have been consolidating their Premiership position and the Blades fans enjoying life at the top. Neil Warnock could still be in the manager's job, United would have been able to keep players like Phil Jagielka and Michael Tonge and added Premiership quality stars and more promising youngsters.

Defeats like last night's 6-0 loss to a team of Arsenal youngsters might not have happened. £30 million will help but it's never going to bring real justice.

Fusion of our skills leads to sport glory

SHEFFIELD'S sporting prowess came to the fore on more occasions than you might think during the Beijing Olympics - in everything from the design of the suits swimmers wear to the bikes champions rode.

With the Winter Olympics in Vancouver now on the horizon, the city region has a chance to make its name again, through Bromley Ice and Snow Sport Technologies, based at the Innovation Technology Centre on the Advanced Manufacturing Park.

Their immediate task is to develop a better bob sleigh for women's champion Nicola Minichiello and skeleton bobs for the UK team, which is likely to feature Kristan Bromley, one of the scientific brains behind the business, and his partner, Turin Olympics silver medallist Shelley Rudman.

It's a perfect fusion of the skills the region rightly rejoices in - hi-tech expertise in materials, manufacturing, research and performance.
