TODAY The Star tells the tragic and fascinating story of a sporting hero.
Glynn Jones was a supremely gifted all-rounder who grew up in Bentley, Doncaster between the two world wars.
He could have been a professional in almost any sport but he chose football and joined the then high-flying Charlton Athletic.
But like
so many of his era he was robbed of his prime, and eventually his life, by the Second World War.
Glynn Jones had every chance to be a sporting superstar of his day.
He would have been taken into a club and every aspect of his well-being taken care of. He could have blossomed, have been well paid, become an international and admired by millions.
But like the many who gave everything in the Second World War his life was never fulfilled. We will never know what he could have achieved if he had lived in peacetime.
The story of Glynn Jones is the story of his generation.
A story that echoes through so many familes of more ordinary yet no less cherished men and women all over the world who never got chance to fulfill their potential
We should all be thankful for their sacrifice.

Held an incredible 74 times the Star Walk was a major event in the city's social and sporting calender and John is to walk the route 74 times to mark every one of the events.
Some reckon he's a bit barmy but he doesn't mind and we think he's a Star.
John has already raised more than £100,000 for charity in his life and will be adding to that as he walks the route around the city with his pram and green wig.
