YOU don't have to be odd to impress the Friendly Society of The Oddfellows - just a livewire. For the organisation wants readers to put friends or family forward to qualify for their Active and Ageless Awards, which go to people who show that life begins at 50!
The awards will be given to people who have passed their half century in years but are determined to continue living life to the full.

We are delighted to be associated with these awards for they will show that this region is full of people who ar
e as young as they feel.

There was a time when people were looking forward to putting up their feet and taking life at a more gentle pace once they passed the age of 50. But not any longer.

Today's 50-plus generation are sending out signals which are loud and clear that they want to keep as active and, therefore, healthy as possible. And that is good news not only for themselves but also for the rest of us.

For the more we all look after our bodies, the less pressure we put on the health services which can concentrate on other, more pressing cases.

So the message is to get active and stay ageless - and you could be in line for an award.

Get behind this very worthy cause

DESPITE living in London since the mid-sixties, Sheffield's favourite son, Michael Palin, shows that he has no intention of forgetting his roots by agreeing to travel north for a charity show at the City Hall.

It will be raising funds, and awareness, of the Helen's Trust which aims to help people with incurable illnesses stay in their own homes by offering help from carers.

The fact that Michael, who must have more requests to help worthy causes than almost any other celebrity thanks to his good nature and friendly personality, has agreed to support the trust indicates exactly what great work it does - and the tremendous results it produces.

All that now remains is for our readers to get behind the event and make sure it is a resounding success.
