NEWS that Sheffield's most needy families may miss out on cold weather payments because of their postcodes is mind-boggling.
The city is divided into three areas where temperatures are taken to see if payments need to be made - and none of them are in Sheffield.
Temperatures are checked in York, Nottingham and Bingley to see whether pensioners and the sick are feeling the
cold in Burngreave, Gleadless and Grenoside.

Barmy! Why can't temperatures be taken where the people actually live?
Bureaucratic madness like this breeds resentment and anger.

For years there has been a perfectly good weather station at Weston Park that could have been used to measure temperature in Sheffield.
Surely that would be better than relying on measurements 70 miles apart to tell us whther Sheffield pensioners are cold or not?

It's a scandal thatcan easily be put right. That has to happen before winter sets in.

Park Hill revamp is second to real need

PARK Hill flats redevelopment has caused much controversy in the city.
Many think the 1950s flats should be consigned to history others say they're part of Sheffield's character and buildings of cultural significance.

The Star has had grave reservations about the project from its launch.
Now development company Urban Splash is laying off staff and concerns have been raised about its future.

One thing is for sure, Sheffield needs affordable housing. If Park Hill is threatened we need a 'Plan B'.

Hardy annuals bloom

BEFORE we had the green lobby and global warming we had gardeners.
Working men and women who turned our allotments and estates into little edens of flowers and vegetables.

They still do it, not because it's trendy or politically correct but because they love it.

Good on 'em, long may they flourish!
