Sheffield Tigers 65 v Mildenhall 27:
RAMPANT Sheffield coasted to their biggest win of the season against a Fen Tigers outfit who have still to register their first points of the season.
Despite the Suffolk side tracking former Elite Leaguer Theo Pijper and guest Chris Schramm from top flight club Ipswich, they had no answer to the Owlerton side who had maximums from both in-form Ricky Ashworth and Ben Wilson.

Ashworth scorched through the card unopposed in five rides while Wilson carded three wins in his paid 15.

Skipper Andre Compton would also have been unbeaten by an opponent bar a blip in his second ride, when he picked up drive on the second turn and lost control with Mildenhall's Schramm being clattered into the safety fence.

Ironically, Schramm picked himself up to win the re-run, with Compton excluded, and that proved to be the visitors' only success of a torrid night.

Four 5-1's saw Sheffield go 32-16 up by the mid-way mark and they then led 42-18 after ten races, with no way back for the Fen men.

Indeed, Sheffield pounded them with three successive 5-1s in the lat three heats to make sure of an overwhelming victory.

Paul Cooper bagged 10 points after dropping to reserve while young Kyle Hughes notched his best return since joining the club with paid 5, including a superb paid win in his last ride as he came from behind to beat former Swindon star Pijper.

Apart from Schramm and Pijper the visitors had feeble support, as they crashed to yet another defeat.

Now Sheffield head for Somerset tonight in a strong frame of mind.

Said team boss Eric Boocock: "It was a thumping win, but now we have to turn our attentions to the two away matches at Somerset and then at Mildenhall on Sunday. If we keep up this form then there's every chance that we can win both."

Tonight's opponents have set the pace at the top of the Premier League, but the Highbridge track has proved a profitable hunting ground in the past for Boocock's side.

TIGERS: R. Ashworth 15, B. Wilson 13+2, A. Compton 9, J. Parsons 8+2, P. Cooper 8+2, L. Smethills 8+1, K. Hughes 4+1.

MILDENHALL: C. Schramm 9, T. Pijper 8, M. Wright 3+1, M. Rajkowski 3, M. Baseby 2, J. Graversen 2.
