OLYMPICS-bound Sheffield star Jessica Ennis will be in action at the Yorkshire Track and Field Championships at Don Valley tomorrow and Sunday.
Although the heptathlon star has entered five events, she is likely to concentrate her attention on the 200 metres, 100 metres hurdles and high jump.

Ennis jointly holds the UK high jump record at 1.96 and it would be a major upset if she lost alt
hough she is up against good opposition in defending champion Adele Lassu, the former Barnsley athlete who now competes for Sale, and former Sheffield athlete Kay Humberstone, now with Trafford.

The high jump is scheduled for 4pm on Saturday.

In the hurdles (Sunday, 12:30 pm) Ennis faces Sheffield Hallam student Zara Hohn (Wakefield) and her third event, the 200 metres, is at 2:55 on Sunday.

Ennis has also entered the 100 metres and the shot where her Sheffield team mate Amy Hill defends her title.

Ennis competes in the javelin at Loughborough the following weekend, all of which leads to an important heptathlon in Austria the week after.

Another athlete with Olympic aspirations is Hallamshire's Hatti Dean.

She has recovered her form after some below par cross country races and, after a spell of training in South Africa, should have little trouble in repeating her 1500 metres/ 2000 steeplechase double of 12 months ago.

A third athlete expected to challenge for an Olympic place, Sam Ellis (Barnsley/City of Sheffield), is an unlikely starter even though he has entered both the 800 and 1500 metres.

Eldridge Phiri (Sheffield), winner of the 200 metres and runner up in the 100 last time, is listed for both events again whilst the men's hurdles are likely to be dominated by Sheffield athletes.

Charlie Kavanagh and Philip Jarrett clash in the 110 hurdles whilst Tom Grantham and Steve Garrett should have an intriguing contest in the 400 hurdles with Grantham also listed to defend his title in the 400 metres flat event.

Sheffield's high jumper Manangwa defends his high jump title.

The meeting, with titles at stake in all age groups down to under 13, starts at 10:00 am on both days.
