TOMMY Spurr is doubtful for the Owls' clash with Coventry at Hillsborough on Saturday.
Manager Brian Laws has revealed that the ever-present left-back is among the club's fresh crop of injuries.

Spurr received a heavy blow to his thigh in last Saturday's defeat at Derby and has suffered bleeding into the muscle.

Peter Gilbert trained yesterday after missing the Pride Park match with an Achilles tendon niggle and he is on stand-by for a recall.

But Spurr is not being ruled out. He showed his powers of recovery when he played in the Sheffield derby only a fortnight after suffering ankle ligament damage at Plymouth and after it had been expected that he would miss the United game.

Laws confirms: "Tommy is a doubt for Saturday - but you can't write him off. He was determined to carry on playing, last time. Nothing would surprise me with him."

Etienne Esajas could be fit for the Coventry game after missing the Derby clash with an Achilles tendon niggle.

But the results of tests on Akpo Sodje's hamstring tendon are still awaited, and Wade Small is expected to be out for seven to 10 days with the hamstring problem that kept him out last Saturday.

Laws watched the Reserves lose 2-1 to Grimsby. "We conceded a couple of naive goals," said the Owls manager. "Lewis Buxton did all right in centre midfleld, and Jimmy Smith worked hard; Franny Jeffers got a goal."

Right-back Liam McMen-amin figured in Northern Ireland Under-21s' 3-1 win against Scotland in Hamilton.

The 19-year-old went on as a sub at half-time when it was 2-1.

Jermaine Johnson is on Jamaica duty against Canada in Kingston tonight.

Paul, do you mean he has a bruised thigh? We used to play football on the top field (Gleadless Valley I'm sure you remember that)Kick seven bells out of one another, then play for The Horse and Groom or the Nailmakers Sunday league, and THEN go to work Monday morning.
What a bunch of softies playing the game today. I'll bet they wouldn't miss a match if they did not get paid.

And I'm sure Tommy Spurr would turn out on Saturday with his bruised thigh (regardless of how bad it was) if it was up to him. And then when we lost 2-0 with Tommy getting skinned by their right winger for both goals because he couldn't turn and sprint you'd be straight back on here blaming Laws for playing him when he obviously wasn't fit. Sheesh.

Malblue - playing for the Horse and Groom or Nailmakers? That was for jessies. Playing for The Wyvern - that was for the big boys.
