WEDNESDAY today completed beat-the-deadline loan deals for Stoke midfield player Tom Soares and Cardiff striker Warren Feeney.
Both have been signed for a month and will boost the squad for Saturday's visit of promotion-chasing West Brom.

Brian Laws had been conducting a wide-ranging hunt for two players as secretly as possible and was worried that other clubs could provide late competition.

But he safely landed Soares and Feeney before today's 5pm deadline for pre-Christmas loan deals.

The duo are now available to the Owls until December 28.

Feeney, a former Leeds United trainee, has also played for Bournemouth, Stockport, Luton and Swansea.

He also featured for Dundee United in the Scottish Premier League last season, scoring six goals in 22 appearances.

He has played 34 times for Northern Ireland and scored five goals for them.

Owls manager Brian Laws said: "Cardiff have plenty of attacking options, having scored 33 goals in the Championship already this season so it has been difficult for Warren to force his way into the team regularly.

"I am really pleased that Dave Jones has allowed Warren to join us on loan because he is an attack-minded player with a lot to offer in the final third and he will give us a boost going into the festive fixtures.

"We have been creating plenty of opportunities in recent matches but we need to convert those into goals and hopefully Warren can bring something extra to the team in that respect."

Soares was signed by Stoke from Palace in the summer of 2008 for £1.25m.

He tasted the Premier League with Palace in the 2004/05 season and featured in seven top-flight matches last season for Stoke before a loan spell in the Championship with Charlton.

Laws said: "Tom Soares is a player I have admired for some time and he is a midfielder with a great engine who can get forward and provide extra ammunition going forward.

"He played more than 150 games for Crystal Palace so has plenty of experience at Championship level as well as playing in the Premier League. Tom is also an athletic player
and will bring more energy to our squad."

Yeh, just got to hope for the best. Hope the tipped "midfielder from a top club' materialises. We really are desperate for a driving force in midfield. Apparently the target can operate centrally or wide... please let him be predominantly central since we're adequately covered wide by JJ and Esajas.
More in hope than expectation.... as always with us! UTO

Wow! I'm completely underwhelmed! Looks like the only loan signings we can make are other club's dropouts. Still maybe the other (possible) signing will make me Whistle. I am not holding my breath though.

What a load of rubbish.

As if its not bad enough we have a cast off who is not good enough to get into Derby's first team despite the fact they are below us in the league, we have now taken on a player who had the fantastic scoring record of 6 goals in 22 games in Scotland.

If this is the best we can get why not just keep Sodje and let him play his way back to fitness.

huyton - if you must keep coming here, get up to date. This is nothing to do with what you're grunting about. You're making yourself look like a bigger tool than you already are. I'd wet myself if if scored the winner on Saturday and we ended up above you. Although you wouldn't think it with how you go on, you're only 3 points above us.

Actually, it looks like he could chip in with a goal or two looking at his record.

Can't see the point. Why send Sodje out on loan and bring in Feeney on loan who will either replace Varney (hardly a scoring machine!) or be on the bench. He hasn't started for Cardiff yet this season, will only be here for a month and play in about 6 games maximum and it will take time for him to settle in and get to know the rest of the team.
Agree with Bluevein(4) why not play Sodje? I know people are saying he isn't the same player he was but how do we know unless we give him some starts instead of a few minutes as sub here and there.
I Hope Feeney can score a few goals but this just seems another desperate move by Mr Laws.

Sodje has had 8 or 9 runouts as sub and looked awful and I mean Purse-like awful. Makes sense to let him have a try out the lower level to try and get his touch and form back. Even Charlton are using him as a sub!! Two goals from two tho'. Let's hope he comes back in good shape to replace Feeney in a months time.

Soares has signed too.... I think we all thought that was dead. I think BL has been playing it smart for the last day or two to avoid another club nipping in.
