FAN group Wednesdayite are to vote on whether to sell their shares in the football club to the Geoff Sheard led consortium.
The organisations' 1,100 or so members will balloted with the result expected in early August - probably August 7 after a closed meeting of the group the night before.

A draft letter is being sent out to Wednesdayite's rank and file in the post an
d via e-mail with details of communication between Wednesdayite and would-be buyer Sheard.

It also contains a recommendation by the Wednesdayite Board which is being kept under wraps.

Members will be asked to answer a minimum of two questions on the ballot paper.

First Wednesdayite require a rule change in order to sell their 10 per cent of shares in the Championship club. A 75 per cent vote in favour is required to alter the constitution.

The second question is only relevant if the first is answered positively. It will ask if members want to sell to Sheard. A 51 per cent majority would be enough for the takeover to proceed.

Members will be able to vote be e-mail, in the post or at the meeting.
The poll has been endorsed by former Home Secretary David Blunkett, who has been advising Wednesdayite.

In a statement from the MP's office he said: "I can confirm that I advised Wednesdayite that despite legitimate unanswered questions and the need for urgent clarification and reassurances, it would be in everyone's best interests to try and move matters on immediately by moving to a ballot.

What do you think? Post your comment below.

"Clearly, those substantive matters which remain unanswered would then be on the table, but it is my view that any progress is better than the current impasse, the uncertainty and therefore the instability for the club which currently exists. A new chairman and board and of course, new investment, is self-evidently a vital and urgent priority and I hope that it will now be possible to engender a speedy conclusion.

"I ought to stress that I have not been dealing with either Geoff Sheard or existing directors or club representatives (which would clearly be inappropriate). But I have, as a longstanding and committed fan as well as the Member of Parliament in whose constituency Hillsborough stadium is sited, sought to do my best to contribute to an acceptable outcome to this long running saga."

Sheard said yesterday that he had expected the issue to go to a vote.
He has been advised not to attend the meeting when the poll's outcome is announced.

In my opinion, David Blunkett has given Wednesdayite fan group sensible advice and surely all Wednesday fans want this take-over to be quickly and satisfactorily resolved so that Brian Laws and the players can begin working towards the promotion push.

the only thing that can stop this deal now is whether wednesdayite value position on the board more than the health of the club if they vote against this now ill have lost the will to live

I think if Wednesdayite block this deal then the vast majority of normal Owls fans, who do not support or agree with Wednesdayite in any way, will go berserk. They are a minority of fans who do not represent the views of 99% percent of the rest and act only out of their own self interest. If Dave Allen regrets 'gifting'then the shares then it's not half as much as the rest of us do.
They have held this club and the suporters to ransom for far too long. Most of us could see that request for a place on the board coming months back and it doesn't take a genius to work out who that person was going to be.
Sell the shares, shut up and go away.
I too hope David Blunkett has given them good advice, however if he has it will be the first sensible thing he has ever had to say

The above comment is what gets me about a large section of Wednesday fans. Because of Allen blasting them in the past, fans assume they must be an evil organisation with contrasting views to them of 'normal fans'. They are not - they want what's best for the club like anyone else.
Anyone can join Wednesdayite, so to say they don't represent the views of 99% of fans is just plain ignorance to what they set out to do, which is to represent as many people as possible. If you don't join, then fair enough, but don't then ridicule them for how many fans they represent.
I'd be surprised if they didn't sell up, because the deal sounds quite lucrative from what we're led to believe.

P.S. I should point out that I am not a Wednesdayite member, just to detain any accusations of being biased.

THE WEDNESDAYITE GROUP ARE SMALL MINDED WHO ONLY HAVE THEIR OWN INTERESTS AT HEART. TO THINK THAT THEY DESERVE A SEAT ON THE BOARD SHOWS JUST HOW NARROW MINDED THET ARE. THEY SHOULD SELL THEIR SHARES(WHO WILL GET THE MONEY?) & LET THE CLUB PROGRERSS

I agree with wesp,I know it's Uber frustrating but lets not judge anyone before we have heard the decision. Think August 7 is still a bit slow, why can't they just email and have it done by next week?.

Toftwood, if you would read all relevant articles to the takeover, you would understand that Wednesdayite aren't demanding a place on the board, it was a simple enquiry to see what the consortium's view would be to this suggestion.
My views on the thought of a Wednesdayite director being on the board are that it would be good to have a 'real fan', although at the same time it may be better to have someone more business minded perhaps.
And the fact that you don't even know who would get the Wednesdayite share money again highlights your lack of knowledge on the subject. From what I'm led to believe, Wednesdayite would be free to use in the money as long as it is in the best interests on the club.
One more point: Why aren't people ridiculing the other directors who have not yet agreed to sell their shares (other than Allen, allegedly).. Another example which makes me think everyone is brainwashed to hate Wednesdayite..

Be open minded and not believe everything you hear, please...

to be honest i've never understood why wednesdayite even exist .
we are all wednesday fans , either as individuals or members of associate clubs e.g north wales supporters club , inter city owls etc .
i don't believe that supporters should ever get mixed up in club politic's .
it's our place to support and not to dictate policy .
leave that to the men and women who put their money upfront , who risk their own personal fortunes should things go awry .
just support laws and the boys !
COME ON THE WEDNESDAY .

i agree penrhyn bay owl. Just a couple of things i would like to raise is one hulley and addey say they have the best interests of the club at heart but yet what have they done for the club nothing so if some is coming in to buy them out shouldnt they accept it and say you know what we never took the club anywhere special maybe sheard can lets sell also i agree with what sheard says when he takes over there will be no place for wednesdayite at the table i agree not cause i hate wednesdayite but let a man with the cash and a sense of know how run the club rather than having a wednedsayite member at the table to dictate an opnion that most would not agree with bottom line 1 club 1 owner and lets support the boys come on wednesday!!
