All the gossip from the world of sport.
THE TIMES: Great Britain's athletes will have to aim high and move fast to claim the 20 gold medals at the Olympic Games that the nation has fixed its sights on. With less than 48 hours to go before Beijing formally hands over to London, time is running out to find the extra two golds that will add lustre to the best Olympic performance by Britain in a century. Also: Great Britain must improve on its record gold-medal haul at the Beijing Olympic Games and create a world-class sports system that delivers success beyond 2012, the Government's funding agency for elite athletes said yesterday.

THE GUARDIAN: Usain Bolt soared to his third Olympic gold medal and third world record at the Olympic Games last night as Jamaica's men sensationally took the 4x100metres relay. The quartet of Bolt, Nesta Carter, Michael Frater and Asafa Powell had trained only twice before - the second time just hours before the race. Also: Thaksin Shinawatra is preparing to be forced off the Manchester City board under the Premier League's fit-and-proper person test.

THE INDEPENDENT:
From an England perspective Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff have spent far too little time batting together but yesterday, in the opening one-day series against South Africa, the pair lit up a glum overcast Headingley with a sparkling partnership of 158. Also: Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra has offered to resign as a director and is close to selling part of his stake to raise funds for transfer deals the club's executive chairman Garry Cook has confirmed.

DAILY TELEGRAPH: The Russians were creeping up the medal table, Shanaze Reade's golden hopes had crashed with her on the BMX course, but on the third-last day of the Olympics, kayaker Tim Brabants put Britain firmly into third place in the standings. Also: Lord Triesman, the Football Association chairman, took the first step towards the first step of removing Brian Barwick six weeks ago after receiving board backing to speak with the chief executive about his position.

DAILY MAIL: Usain Bolt, the track sensation of the Olympic Games, last night claimed a third gold medal and a third world record, then struck back at criticism of his celebrations by Olympics chief Jacques Rogge. Also: Britain's Beth Tweddle may be awarded a bronze medal after Olympic chiefs ordered an investigation into allegations that China changed the age of one of their double gold medal winning gymnasts.

DAILY EXPRESS: David Moyes admitted last night that Everton are staring at a full-blown crisis as a combination of inactivity in the transfer market and injury means he may not be able to put an acceptable team out at West Brom today. Also: Lewis Hamilton has been inspired by Britain's Olympians to go for gold in the Formula One world championship this year and make 2008 a year to remember.

DAILY STAR: Thaksin Shinawatra has been advised to stay away from Eastlands tomorrow because of fears for his safety. The City supremo has opted to lie low in the face of security threats - and to avoid turning the game against West Ham into a focus for political unrest. Also: Cristiano Ronaldo is on his way back for Manchester United. The 23-year-old has completed the first week of rehabilitation work since returning from Portugal, where he had ankle surgery in July.

DAILY MIRROR: Everton boss David Moyes is finally set to make a splash in the transfer market by signing Spain winger Albert Riera. Moyes has agreed a club record fee of £12million with Espanyol and hopes to fly Riera for talks this weekend - and beat bitter rivals Liverpool to his signature. Also: Paul Scholes last night insisted he will not come out of international retirement to rescue Fabio Capello's ailing England side.

THE SUN: Cristiano Ronaldo has dealt Manchester United a savage blow with the news he could be out until mid-November. United hoped he would be back by October after his operation on an ankle in July but he will not be back for another 12 weeks. Also: A week ago Heather Fell was pulling pints - yesterday she was pulling off Olympic glory after she won a superb silver in the modern pentathlon just two years after being written off.
