DAILY EXPRESS: William Gallas's Arsenal career looks over after he was stripped of the captaincy and dropped for today's match at Manchester City over his shocking attacks on his team-mates. Also: Sir Alex Ferguson has put the boot into Premier League plans to help England's World Cup bid.

DAILY MIRROR: William Gallas was last night stripped of the Arsenal captaincy by an angry Arsene Wenger following his astonishing attack on team-mates. Also: World Cup winner Gianluigi Buffon is ready to move to Manchester City, if they go ahead with an astonishing £60million bid.

DAILY TELEGRAPH: Joe Kinnear, the Newcastle interim manager, yesterday offered heir apparent Alan Shearer the chance to learn the ropes at St James' Park. Also: Sir Alex Ferguson has put himself at odds with England manager Fabio Capello by saying he is against plans to bring forward the start of next season's Premier League campaign.

THE INDEPENDENT: Four of the England players who missed Wednesday's friendly away to Germany through injury are expected to return for their clubs today - including all three of Chelsea's absentees. Also: The England and Wales Cricket Board has vowed not to change its domestic or international fixtures to accommodate the Indian Premier League, a stance that is likely to prevent Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff from ever playing a full part in cricket's most lucrative tournament.

THE TIMES: Manchester City's wealthy Arab owners have launched a world-record £50million bid to sign Gianluigi Buffon, widely regarded as the best goalkeeper on the planet. Also: Rafael Benitez, the Liverpool manager, moved yesterday to draw a line under his dispute with Fabio Capello over Steven Gerrard's fitness, but he could not resist having the final word, claiming that "someone at the FA has made a massive mistake" in questioning the severity of an injury that has ruled the player out of this afternoon's Barclays Premier League match against Fulham.

THE GUARDIAN: William Gallas' hold on the Arsenal captaincy appeared to be over last night and his very future at the club in jeopardy after he did not travel with the rest of the squad to the north-west for today's Premier League fixture against Manchester City. Also: Manchester City have added Arsenal's out-of-favour defender Kolo Toure to their list of targets in the January transfer window.
