SIMON Davey, architect of last summer's Oakwell revolution, has designs on four new faces this close season.
The priority task facing the Barnsley chief is to improve the club's league standing.

At the start of last campaign Davey bedded in over a dozen new signings. A brand new-look Barnsley went all the way to the FA Cup semi finals and stood firm for a second successive season in the Championship.

Ahead of next term, recruitment will be far less but with Davey attempting to stretch his budget to cover acquiring a striker, a left sided player, a central midfielder plus another centre back.

His top priority is to sign a centre forward with a proven record in front of goal.

Cash is available but limited and it is understood that Davey is under pressure to use a high percentage of resources to sign new men.

Davey has begun close season operations by putting forwards Istvan Ferenczi and Kim Christensen, midfielders Sam Togwell and Andy Johnson together with defender Paul Reid on the market.

The club are insisting that so far no bids have been received for prize asset Brian Howard despite the repoirted interest of Sheffield United.

Meanwhile the Mayor of Barnsley, coun Len Picken and MP Jeff Ennis are backing the club's 'Stronger together' campaign.

Said Ennis: "Speaking as a former primary school teacher and supporter of Barnsley FC since 1964, I'm delighted with Barnsley's initiative to cut season ticket prices and the offer of free tickets for youngsters.

"Barnsley FC has always figured highly at the heart of the community of Barnsley and these initiatives once again underline the importance of the football club to Barnsley."
