BARNSLEY were today talking to Blackburn Rovers' Dutch striker, Maceo Rigters, about a loan deal.
The clubs have agreed a move and if the 24-year-old accepts personal terms he could make his debut at QPR tomorrow.
He went on loan to Championship rival Norwich last season but tore his hamstring in April.
In the summer of 2007 Celtic and Newcastle were linked with the centre-forward from NAC Breda who won the golden boot at the 2007 European Under-21 Championships, as the tournament's top scorer with four.
Blackburn paid an undisclosed fee for him but he made only one appearance in the FA Cup and two off the bench for the Premier League outfit, scoring once before going to Norwich.
Barnsley training casualty Jamal Campbell-Ryce could be back in business for Barnsley inside a week.
The Jamaican international winger suffered a shock pre-season injury, falling awkwardly during training yesterday and ruling himself out of tomorrow's match at QPR. But news from the hospital was as good as could be expected.
"It's a dislocated elbow. He's out for the weekend but they'll reset it and he could be back by next weekend," relieved Barnsley boss Simon Davey explained.
Campbell-Ryce even has an outside chance of playing in Tuesday's Carling Cup tie at Crewe.
Barnsley were leaving for London today and this morning still had not received international clearance to play Miguel Mostto or Hugo Colace.
It is hoped Mostto's paperwork will be clear late this afternoon. Colace's case is likely to take longer.
Meanwhile, Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell has told his players that this season's battle for promotion will be settled in their own minds.
Blackwell's arrival at Bramall Lane last term coincided with a remarkable improvement in results which saw the South Yorkshire side climb from midtable to within touching distance of a top-six finish.
As his team prepare to begin their latest assault on the Premier League at Birmingham tomorrow, Blackwell said: "The way the lads signed off shows that they are good enough."
