HOT-stepping Sheffield athlete Rebecca Mersh was one of the walking wounded last winter, undergoing surgery to both shins.
The City of Sheffield race walker is now recovered and is back competing. At the European Grand Prix of Race Walking in Leamington she produced a season's best in the 10km which was almost good enough to catch England teammate Holly Smith, who finish
ed fifth.

Mersh's time was 54 minutes and 18 seconds, a minute slower than her pre-operation form.

Seven days later she successfully defended her English Under-20 5km title at Bedford.

n Three Sheffield youngsters travelled down to Milton Keynes to take part in an English Schools development race against teams from Leicestershire, Kent, West Midlands, Warwickshire and Staffordshire Schools.

Shaun Cohen made more than a minute's improvement to take second place in the U-15 boys 2km event.

Two Year Five girls from Sheffield's Greenhill School competed in the U-13 girls race.

Rebecca Chambers and Chloe Pateman were fourth and seventh respectively.
