SHEFFIELD Wednesday are banking on fan power to aid them in the city derby at Hillsborough on Sunday.
Manager Brian Laws is urging Owls supporters to recreate the atmosphere that lifted the team in their 2-0 victory against the Blades in January.
He said: "My message to the fans is 'you can play a major part in this game.'
"They give us great backing and if they flock to the game and get behind us like they did in last season's home derby, then it will be half the battle done.
"The atmosphere at last season's game was unbelievable; it was an inspiration to the players. The fans will play an integral part again."
The Owls manager - who is closing in on a loan defender - says that the team are confident.
"Players were up for last season's derbies, and they're up for this one.
"Every players wants to be a part of this game; everybody is pushing to be fit and ready.
"There's a great incentive for us. We have an opportunity to overtake United."
Laws is keeping his selection cards close to his chest, for example not saying whether Akpo Sodje will play any part or whether Francis Jeffers will start after a five-match run as a sub.
But he is happy that a two-week break from League football has aided derby preparations, with various players coming back from injury.
He is also confident that a loan deal for a utility defender will be completed.
Laws hopes that Jermaine Johnson has come through international duty unscathed.
Jamaica scored a second consecutive 1-0 win last night, against Honduras, to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive. Luton Shelton scored in the 16th minute.
Jamal Campbell-Ryce - set to be in the Barnsley side against the Owls next Tuesday - is said to have had another fine game.
