Sheffield Sharks have completed their roster for the season with the signing of point guard Perry Lawson.
The 26-year-old former Newcastle Eagles player will provide Atiba Lyons' new look squad with a solid presence in the backcourt alongside fellow new face Sherman Rivers.
Lawson, who played for Sheffield on a short term deal at the beginning of last season, is the fifth new addition to the Sharks squad after Lyons brought in Arnaud Dahi, Matt Gorman, Chris Sanders and Rivers during the summer.
It also means that the popular Nathan Niesler won't be returning to the city. It is thought that Niesler, from Australia, was struggling to get visa clearance for his wife.
Veteran Joel Burns also rejoins the club after playing last season at Leicester Riders. Burns has enjoyed a long career in the BBL and showed glimpses of his potential when he wore a Sharks vest two years ago.
With the start of the new campaign less than a month away, Lyons has been talking of his excitement about his first season as a player/coach. His appointment to replace Peter Scantlebury was seen as a shock by some people, but not by Lyons himself.
"I have always been the type of player that was interested in what the coach was doing and why. I enjoy studying tapes of players and games, which probably came from my High School coach back in Florida."
Club favourite Todd Cauthorn is assistant coach and one of Chris Finch's former lieutenants, John Belk, is another member of the backroom staff.
The Sharks have announced their first home pre-season fixture will be against USA Select at EIS on September 14. The match is ticket only from the Sharks office 0114 257 1994.
