SHEFFIELD Wednesday missed out on all three points when they let in a 90 minute equaliser at Hillsborough.
Owls Defender Lewis Buxton had put Wednesday ahead when scrambled the ball home after a corner in front of the Kop early in the second half.

It was his first goal for the Owls, capping a good week after agreeing a permanent deal after a loan spell from Stoke City.

And Wednesday managed to hang on to their lead - right up to the last minute of the game.

Birmingham's Kevin Phillips found the back of the net with a header.

The teams were locked in a Hillsborough stalemate after the first 45 minutes in this Championship encounter.

Chances were at a premium, but Lee Grant had to be alert to flick away a close-range effort, with Hameur Bouazza going close.

Leon Clarke made a welcome return to the Wednesday starting XI against high-flying Birmingham after missing the last six weeks with injury.

Clarke returned to the Owls attack as a replacement for Francis Jeffers who starts a three match ban. It was the only change from the side which lost 2-1 at Nottingham Forest in midweek.

Midfielder Steve Watson was named among the substitutes after recovering from a toe injury but Akpo Sodje, Frank Simek and Etienne Esajas remain sidelined.

Sheffield Wednesday: Hinds, Johnson, Watson, McAllister, Buxton, Spurr, Gray, Boden, Tudgay, Clarke, Grant, Potter, Small, O'Connor, Wood, Beevers
Birmingham City: Ridgewell, Sinclair, Doyle, Larsson, Jerome, Bowyer, Phillips, Murphy, Carsley, Johnson, Parnaby, Bent, Taylor, Fahey, Taylor, Bouazza

The "defending" for Birmingham's equalizer was obscene. There were 3 red shirts around the ball and not a blue and white shirt in site. All the hard work of the 2nd half undone by Sunday pub league defending. Absolutely diabolical.

Got up at 3am to watch the game.
All that good work gone through nerves more than anything else.
Just needed that buffer of another one.
On the bright side we looked far better than them all second half.
Need to carry that form into the rest of the season.
And great to see Beatie score again eh!

Sell Beattie then buy a striker from Chesterfield, a truly forward thinking club.

Great game against Birmingham. The owls looked good although seemed to be missing someone up front to finish the chances. Hopefully they can keep up the hard work for the rest of the season. If we play like that next saturday, 3 points will be ours! Thought we should have carried on attacking for thr last 10 minutes plus extra because it seemed we sat back and let Birmingham have a go and thats when the goal happened. As one of the last comments says the defending for the bham goal was shocking. With 3 players on the back post it was obviously going in. Thought Johnson, Gray, Potter and Buxton had a good game and we look a lot more confident with the new lads in.

Keep up the good work and roll on Saturday!!

UP THE OWLS!!

I think we'll all agree that for 90mins it was an excellent performance.Yes Wade Small was at fault for the goal but just as much at fault was Brian Laws. It was his choice of substitution and should have brought Watson on to bolster the defence. Its decisions like this that cost points.
Having said this playing like we did will have set the Blunts and Dingles a few things to think about next week.
