ROTHERHAM United are bracing themselves for a hefty points deduction unless they can persuade the Football League otherwise today.
Their failure to exit administration through a CVA means they are at the mercy of the League and Rotherham are mindful that Luton were docked a further 20 points recently for similarly failing to get an agreement with creditors.
The Millers, who are understood to have spoken to local MP Kevin Barron over the matter, have a meeting in London today at which they will further press their case and hope to get a favourable outcome.
But with League chairman Brian Mawhinney seemingly determined to take a hard line with clubs that fall into administration, Rotherham could be hit with a penalty that would see them start the season on minus 20 points if the Luton ruling is used as a precedent.
Meanwhile, the Millers play their second friendly tonight and will take a look at striker Drewe Broughton in the clash with Scunthorpe United at the Don Valley Stadium.
