SEAN McAllister is the perfect example of what can be achieved by hard work, believes Brian Laws.
The little midfielder was the surprise hit of the Owls' run-in and has been rewarded with the offer of a new contract.
Some would say he is at a disadvantage because of his height.
But McAllister walks tall in Laws's eyes because of his attitude and workrate.
"Sean is a player who took his opportunity," said the Owls manager.
"He is so wholehearted. He has shown everybody what you can do with hard work; you can get into the side, and show how important the work ethic is.
"Sean might lack height but he doesn't lack bottle.
"I've always said that small players have to have something that gives them an edge. Sean has a great engine, he's prepared to stick his foot in, and he can play."
McAllister broke into the team in March and had an impressive five-match run that helped them to keep their unbeaten sequence going.
He lost his place only because of a calf injury and was expected to be out for the rest the season.
Meanwhile, Lee Bullen has signed a two-year deal with Falkirk, who are seventh in the Scottish Premier League, after being released by the Owls.
Wednesday have confirmed the rest of their pre-season programme, which includes the Holland tour and will end with a home game against Wigan on August 2.
Fixtures: July 15 - Haarlem; 17 Telstar; 23 - Stocksbridge away; 26 - Bury away; 29 - Chesterfield away; 30 - Sheffield FC away; August 2 -Wigan home.
