WEDNESDAY have signed Darren Potter from Wolves on a three-year contract.
He will fly out with the Owls squad from Manchester tomorrow for a week of pre-season work in Malta.
The Star revealed eight days ago that Brian Laws was closing in on the player and very confident of a deal being completed by the end of this we
ek.
Potter was a success on loan last season and has been a target since the 2008-09 campaign ended.
Laws said this afternoon: ""It's been a long, drawn out affair, made more complicated by Wolves' promotion, but I am delighted to have got him."
The fee is undisclosed but Wolves are likely have wanted to recoup at least the initial £250,000 they paid to Liverpool for the midfield player three years ago.
Potter joins Michael Gray, Tommy Miller and Darren Purse as a Wednesday summer signing.
Laws said: "I have made the signing of Darren Potter one of my priorities this summer and I am delighted to secure his signature. Darren impressed me enormously during his loan period last season and he will now prove a very welcome addition to my squad.
"As you would expect, securing the services of a player of Darren's calibre has taken longer to complete than some of our other signings and I would like to place on record my thanks to the chairman, Lee Strafford, for the role he has played in supporting my efforts to significantly strengthen our squad this summer."
Potter said: "I am really pleased to commit my future to Sheffield Wednesday. It is a great club and I really enjoyed my time on loan here last season. It is very encouraging to see that the manager has brought in some very good players this summer and I know we have a strong squad at Sheffield Wednesday now.
"I am really looking forward to training with the squad now I am back and I think all the Wednesday players will be excited about the new season because there is every reason we can have a great season."
Potter made his debut for Liverpool in the Champions League against Graz AK in 2004-05, going on to make two Premier League appearances from the bench that season against Charlton Athletic and Crystal Palace.
The following season he made 10 loan appearances for Southampton.
He went out loan again the following season, to Wolves, where he enjoyed a successful campaign and was almost an ever-present with the Molineux side in 2006-07. Wolves signed him fully in January, 2007, on a three-and-a-half year deal.
He moved to Hillsborough on loan in January; he made 17 appearances for the Owls and scored two goals, including a debut strike against Charlton at Hillsborough.
