BRIAN Laws will not risk Francis Jeffers tonight in Sheffield Wednesday's friendly at MK Dons but he does welcome back another striker after injury, Akpo Sodje.
Neither played figured in the final three months of the season and now the Owls boss is relishing the prospect of his two major signings being back shortly - they have only actually started TWO games together.

"I've decided not to put Franny (Jeffers) back in tonight, we are not going to rush things," said Laws.

"He's been at the injuries unit at Lilleshall for additional rehabilitation and has just got back involved with us and I want to get a bit more work with us and additional contact work but he's nearly there.

"It will be good to have Akpo back. He'll definitely get some action tonight and he'll be glad too because he's been out since the end of January as well.

"I didn't want to start him off in holland where we played on artificial pitches but tonight we'll see him back in a Wednesday shirt."

Laws takes a squad of 19 to Stadium:mk - Wednesday's first visit there - and most of them will feature.

"I think this will be a good test and a step up from last week in Holland against a side who are still on a high after their promotion and who will want to impress their new manager (Roberto Di Matteo).

Wednesday take a side, including some first team squad players, to Stocksbridge Park Steels tomorrow night (7.45) and the build-up continues at Alan Knill's Bury on Saturday.

Francis jeffers, 700.000? What? 3 games at most. What did they do --kick his legs from under him.
Its my bet he wont string 2 games together this season.
I watch a fair bit of Aussie Rugby League where the physical contact is at times tantermount to war, but nobody takes this long to recover.
What can we do? We cant sell him--that's for sure--Just pay his wages till his contract is up.
What a load of!!

Jeffers will hopefully come good i heard it was serious ankle ligament injury plus the gambling and pop which hasnt helped,Arsene Wenger hasnt bought many bad uns in his time and hopefully with a 5 pronged attack 'the wednesady' can really push on this season...Lets hope its another clean sheet tonight with a sprinkling of goals... 4 eva wednesday !

Wasnt he crunched from behind by some big defender while he was spinning?
I'm sure he got a big injury.
I'll be glad to see him back though, i think he will do a fine job for us this season.

he was done from behind by Ryan Shawcross at Stoke. It was a very nasty two footed lunge! No Aussie rugby player would have played for the rest of the season if it happened to them!

jeffers is one of the most talented strikers in the league, admittedly this is prob his last chance this year, was awful challenge from shawcross nobody would have played for 7 months injury prone or not just unlucky, if he and sodje can string games together as a partnership theres easily 30 goals plus between them and with our defense one reason why im feeling optimistic bout this season

Southey owl's never seen an aussie league or union game obviously. Take a look at Wallabys v Springbocks game last weekend. Anyway shouldn't anyone inflicting that kind of injury on a player be banned for as long as the injured party is out of action, or does that go in the "seldom used common sense" basket together with the use of video refs to determine misguided on field decisions.

owl down under i am normally 100% behind your comments but please give jeffers a chance ( he's my mums sisters grandson ) so i am obliged to be loyal purely by family ties !!
if he is fit can you imagine the handful both he and akpo will be this season and with tudgay , burton and a super slimmed down version of clarke in the wings who knows .
the midfield is still the area that bothers me a bit ..particularly out wide , small is injury prone , jj blows more cold than hot and esisjas spent most of last season on the sidelines .
have we lost interest in s'ongoo ?
he was superb in my view capable of operating on either wing .
anyway , please be nice to the fox in the box or you'll have penrhyn bay owl's mum knocking at your door and you wouldn't like that , she eats wallabies for breaky !
