Henderson had 'no malice'

SHEFFIELD UNITED will analyse video evidence before deciding whether to appeal Darius Henderson's red card against Swansea City.
The striker was dismissed just seconds into the second-half of Saturday's dramatic draw at the Liberty Stadium which saw Chris Morgan cancel out Jason Scotland's penalty three minutes from time.

Referee Andre Marriner ordered Henderson, a £2m summer signing from Watford, back to the dressing room after ruling he caught Angel Rangel with an arm as they contested an aerial ball.

Sam Ellis, United's assistant manager, refused to criticise Marriner – "They have a hard enough job as it is and we're not going to make it any harder" – but did confirm that officials at Bramall Lane could ask the Football Association to overturn the decision if replays suggest Henderson was hard done by.

Speaking immediately after the match, which saw United slip to seventh in the table, Ellis said: "We've yet to view the video. We'll decide what to do when we have.

"We're not going to have a go at the ref. He sees something and he gives it. We'll have to have a look at it first."

Henderson found an unlikely ally in Swansea manager Roberto Martinez who claimed he had not deliberately set out to cause his fellow Spaniard harm.

Martinez said: "It can be hard because, if you go with your arm and the referee sees it, then you go

"It's hard because it happens even if there's no malice in it and I don't think he (Henderson] had any malice."

United were indebted to goalkeeper Paddy Kenny for five saves as they battled to overcome their numerical disadvantage.

Marriner also found himself at the centre of controversy when, in the 55th minute, he awarded Swansea a spot-kick after Gary Naysmith's tackle on Darren Pratley despite United's claims the offence had taken place outside of the area.

Ellis said: "It was contentious. Some people are saying it took place outside of the box but it was an injudicious challenge and we should have dealt with it better."

and again, why did we conceded! becuase Naysmith backed off and backed off, until he was forced to make the challenge in the box! I'm fed up with United doing it, if your going to tackle him why allow him to back you right into the box before trying to tackle, either STAND him up (by this I mean dont back off the player giving him a chance to go past you) or tackle him straight away allowing players behind the chance to pick up the scraps

If a left-back flies in with a tackle and misses, then the winger is round is in seconds with the defended left on the deck and no cover.

Backing off is often done, but I do agree that there must be a problem when the same left-back gives away two penalties in 2 games. Is that 5 in our last 3 matches now? (2 for us and 3 against)

Maybe it's time to give David Carney a shot at left-back. I know he prefers left-wing/inside left, but he plays left-back for Australia and does very well. Imagine Kyle overlapping Cotters/Halford down the right and Carney overlapping Young Quinny down the left - we'd terrify teams! Ok, we may concede more goals, but I'd pay £30 to watch a 4-2 win every week!

Another red card. Hes pushing them too far beyond the managers duty. Hot heads wont get in the prem thats a dead cert.

Why try an imagine Carney who has never played there for us and is probably too slow? I'm not a complete dreamer.
I could imagine Naughton and Armstrong, another really exciting attacking full back given away to the team I consider the best in the division (now they have a replacement left back for Shorey).
Income £750K, losses £80million (£50million for a year in the Prem plus two year parachutes at £15million) as Mr. McCauwber would say = bankruptcy.
Still we have that impotent carthorse Henderson up front. That's really exciting!
I say lets appeal and get it upgraded to 4 matches as Wednesday did recently.
What chance a recalled Billy Sharpe stuffing it to the man (along with Robinson) who drove him from the Lane next week?

Must practice these kind of tackles in training. Probably only way the blunts can win is to take out an entire team through bad tackles!!
