Fresh faces bring new twist to Owls takeover talks

WEDNESDAY'S takeover saga has taken yet another new twist with three mystery businessmen - thought to be Indian - taking places in the directors' box last night.
The trio are understood to have been guests of the club at the match against Nottingham Forest.

It is known that the Owls have been involved in efforts to encourage new investment, quite apart from the Geoff Sheard affair.

Last night's trio are now at the centre of fresh speculation about takeover talks.

Wednesday have remained open to offers for a buy-out of the club throughout the last few months. Sheard - apparently not in the directors' area last night - has never made a bid for the whole club, preferring to try to buy the shares of individual major shareholders as a way of gaining control.

The club's financial advisers Deloitte and Touche have been co-ordinating the hunt for an overall buyer.

In addition, Wednesdayite chairman Darryl Keys revealed last week that the fan group have been sounded out by several parties who wanted information.

The presence of last night's mystery men is understood to be further evidence of interest in the club from possible backers.

It is also reminiscent of a game two seasons ago when a then unknown Chinese businessman was pictured in the directors' box; it was later revealed to have been Carson Yeung, who did have talks with the Owls but ended up taking a stake in Birmingham City.

Manager Brian Laws has said that he believes Wednesday could really take off with the right investment and that if the club can hold down a top-10 spot then it will surely be more attractive to a prospective buyer.

The Owls surged to fifth in the table with last night's 1-0 win.

But Laws refuses to overplay the current position, with only nine games played: "It's nice to be where we are. There are still another 30-odd games to go. We just want to keep the momentum going. You never know where it will take you.

"It's a big week for us. To get six points from two games has been tremendous. If we can make it nine points it will be phenomenal. Plymouth (opponents on Saturday) are on a bit of run.

"The most important thing is that with every game that goes by where we get points, the players will get confidence."

Team skipper Richard Wood - set to be fit for Saturday after going off last night with a slight groin injury - prefers the Owls not be talked about as promotion dark horses.

"Not many people are mentioning us at the moment; that's the way we want it to be; we're under the radar. we hope to carry on picking up points up to Christmas and carry on from there."

Is it me or does it feel that anyone who fancies getting their face in the paper, simply needs to contact the club, mention the word "investment" and Bob's yer Uncle. I can't help feeling that we are becoming a bit of laughing stock with this merry go round of Johnny Nobodys turning up and being snapped in the Director's box.

What puzzles me is this. Why should a prospective investor first contact Wednesdayite for information (about the club) and not the board? Can anyone please enlighten me?

I enjoyed Chadwick Towers comment, i.e. '...anyone who fancies getting their face in the paper.....' Brill!

what a merry go round this takeover is, sick of hearing about it and nothing been done, sheard sort it, or someone else come in, simple as that and sort it soon or go away. what a job laws is doing, so happy with the team, just hope he can keep this team together and push on, i dont think we have a problem with any team in this division and hope we can add to the squad in the transfer window. every time i go we ethier lose or draw so i will stay away till about december till my son is born, come on the wednesday and carry on, we can go up this season, and if someone wants to buy the club, show us the money or go away, or the current board listen to the fans and improve ur rubbish PR at the moment and make us proud of this club once again
