MANAGER Mark Robins began an anxious wait this morning to see if any of his Rotherham United players were going to be whisked away on transfer deadline day.
Once the club went into administration last week and savings had to be made, there was always a likelihood that there may be some movement out.
That possibility increased with the club's shedding of points over Easter which, combined with the 10 point deduction, made it pretty unlikely that they will now figure in the play-offs.
With wage deferrals, of 50 per cent, imposed on the players this week, and the uncertainty regarding the immediate future, players are unlikely to be content and other clubs may make a last minute bid to get some.
The players were initially led to believe that their March wages would be paid in full but then the administrator, Jeremy Bleazard, informed them last week that this may not be the case and on Tuesday came the deferral decision that, understandably, left players and staff disappointed.
What do you think? Post your comments below. Representatives of the players union, the PFA, have met the players to discuss the situation and offer explanations on ways ahead.
Although half their wages have been withheld, this does not mean the players can just walk away.
Boss Robins described it as "an extremely difficult time" for everyone and may have been understating matters even then!
"It's simply a matter of wait and see today but I don't want to lose any player," he said.
"The administrator will have the say on that but, out of necessity in these situations, the manager must be kept informed."
The man whose job it is to slash costs often, in such circumstances, offloads a club's highest earners.
Robins has a squad of just 18 so any departures would leave him down to the bare minimum ahead of Saturday's trip to Morecambe and for the rest of the season.
*Todfay it emerged Chesterfield have contacted Millers' administrators asking about players available for transfer.
One player of interest could be experienced centre back Graham Coughlan.
Blues boss Lee Richardson is thought to be interested in signing him.
