Williamson, who only returned to action following an eight month lay-off at Burnley last month, was an unused substitute during Saturday’s meeting with Norwich City.
But, dismissing claims the 28-year-old had been dropped, Adam said: “That’s not why Lee wasn’t in there.
“He’s been asked to do a hell of a lot since coming back into the team and we’ve got to be careful how we manage him.”
Williamson, who underwent back surgery over the summer, recently admitted he wanted to “manage” his recovery properly.
Adams added: “Lee doesn’t train on a Monday, for example. We don’t want to push him too hard and then see him blow up.”
Meanwhile, the achievements of young people and volunteers involved with the Kickz community project will be recognised at an awards ceremony tomorrow.
The event, which is being staged at The Hub in Sharrow, aims to recognise their efforts helping youngsters become involved in sport, education, youth clubs and dance.
