Wednesday off but Blades on

Sheffield Wednesday have postponed tonight's game against Barnsley due to concern over potentially treacherous conditions around the ground at Hillsborough stadium.

While the pitch would have been playable tonight, the club held in-depth discussions with South Yorkshire Police and the decision to call it off was due to concerns over public safety with roads and approach roads still icy and further sub-zero temperatures forecast.

However, Sheffield United's game at Southampton tonight has been given the go-ahead.

The pitch has passed a number of inspections and with the Police happy with conditions surrounding the ground, the game will be on.

Rotherham United v Bury was called off after a 10.45am pitch inspection. The tie may be played on February 10.

The Coca-Cola Championship games at Bristol City, Preston, and leaders Wolves are all still on.

Southampton have been upbeat about the chances of the game going ahead since early yesterday. But a pitch inspection is due soon.

In League One the games at Cheltenham, Crewe, Huddersfield, Northampton, Southend, Stockport and Walsall are all on, with League

Two games at Chester, Exeter, Morecambe, Shrewsbury and Wycombe set to go ahead.

However, a number of the games were subject to pitch inspections.

Today's fixtures which were called off yesterday included Arsenal's FA Cup fourth-round replay against Cardiff at the Emirates Stadium.

Tonight's Coca-Cola Championship games at Crystal Palace and QPR were called off yesterday along with the League One games at Brighton, Carlisle, Leyton Orient, Millwall and Oldham, as well as the League Two games at Aldershot, Dagenham & Redbridge, Lincoln, Luton and Notts County.

Snow wiped out racing in Britain on Monday and today's meeting at Market Rasen was called off yesterday.

Sedgefield was abandoned this morning because of a waterlogged track and Southwell was also off.

Tomorrow's meeting at Ludlow has been called off due to snow on the course and there is a 3pm inspection at Carlisle.

Kempton and Lingfield are due to stage all-weather Flat fixtures on Wednesday.
