TYKES: Jay Rodriguez relishes spell at Barnsley

NEW Barnsley loan signing Jay Rodriguez is hoping to give Reds' fans plenty to savour on his one-month deal at the club.

The promising Burnley striker was captured by Reds' boss Mark Robins on transfer deadline day - and he wasted no time in making his mark with a goal as a second half substitute against Preston North End on Tuesday night.

The 20-year-old hitman is looking to bag many more goals as he tries to get welcome first team experience

.

"It was a dream start for me," Rodriguez told The Star.

"It was my first touch and I scored my first goal, so you can't really ask much more than that.

"We played well. We kept the ball well and it was a great team performance."

And Rodriguez, who has also had a loan spell at Scottish club Stirling Albion, revealed he had had no hesitations in joining the Reds when Robins came looking for him.

"Barnsley is a great club, it was a great opportunity for me to come and get some goals," he added. "All the lads have made me feel very welcome. I know Fozzie (Stephen Foster) and Andy Gray from Burnley, so that helped me settle as well.

"I want to play as much as I can and do well for the team."
