TEAM Sky - featuring Rotherham’s Ben Swift - went from jubilation to despair at the Tour de France as team leader Bradley Wiggins today crashed out with a broken collar bone.
A day after a first Tour stage success through Edvald Boasson Hagen, Wiggins fell with around 40-kilometres of today’s 218km seventh stage from Le Mans to Chateauroux remaining and had to abandon the race.
Team Sky principal Dave Brailsford said: “It’s obviously a devastating day for the team.
“He’s in great shape, team leader, it’s the end of his Tour.
“It’s a shame we never got to see him going in the mountains.
“He was in the form of his life.”
