SHEFFIELD United picked up a vital three-points at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday to close the gap on the top two in League One.

It was the first win in a while for the Blades so there was a sense of relief online.

Wakey Blade posted on thestar.co.uk: “At last 3 points, lets hope this is the start of a winning run, gods knows we need it, but then again we are Sheffield United, we know what happens when the pressure is on!”

While on Twitter @Stateside84 wrote: “Great result if not performance 2day. Class finish from Kitson, lucky by Doyle, need to kick on from this & put a run together #twitterblades.”

@BridgetteG68 couldn’t work out how United captain Michael Doyle had got in the scoresheet, saying: “Still unsure of what part of Doyle’s body his goal went in off! Not his foot anyway! :-) #TwitterBlades.”

Lone Ranger hi ho on thestar.co.uk said: “We got the three points we needed to keep in touch with the top two (who lost) and played well and should of scored a hatfull but a win was welcome after the start to the new year usual panic last ten minutes why oh why do they panic like that, lets hope we can push on now.”

For Wednesday there was relief that two goals had been pulled back to secure a draw with Derby County but results elsewhere saw teams below the Owls close the gap.

Gerimo on thestar.co.uk said it was worrying: “Can’t believe the run Barnsley & Bristol are having,it’s like watching one of those horror films where the chaser is crawling but still catches up,think it will take 52/53 points to stay up this season.”

Lone Ranger hi ho predicted: “Going to be more like 55 points Geri to stay safe this season all teams are fighting for their lives and usually one or more team gets left behind but not this time, so like i say you need a good few more points on the board, squeaky bum times ahead.”

And webbotheowl said the picture will keep changing: “Granted we are only 2 points clear, but look how many teams are looking behind them now. At one point the bottom 4 were 8 points adrift. One team always goes on a bad run and go down (hopefully huddesfield) and one team always makes a run for playoffs (well we came dream can’t we) plenty of teams worse than us on this division. If we play like we are we should be safe but its going to be exciting and nerve wrecking.”
