THREE big talking points over the weekend.

Barnsley sack manager Keith Hill after their defeat against Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield United lose at home against Hartlepool at Bramall Lane in a top-versus-bottom match and Sheffield Wednesday’s Jeremy Helan somehow plays 90 minutes at Huddersfield despite being yellow-carded twice.

On thestar.co.uk tykes4eva said Hill should have been backed more by the Reds’ board: “Not sure this is a good move the team performances havent been bad, I cant see what another manager will do without any money. The board wanted to send a positive message by sacking hill maybe they should try injecting some cash into the club that would be more positive!”

Captain Sensible 4U tipped former Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O’Driscoll as a possible successor: “Hill had a difficult challange with the lack of resources at his disposal but a change had to be made otherwise relagation was looking a certainty. O’Driscoll would be a great appointment.”

The Blades celebrated the 150th anniversary of the world’s oldest football stadium - Bramall Lane - but couldn’t overcome Hartlepool.

Silverblade posted: “First loss at home so hopefully we can learn from it, but give credit TO Hartlepool they came with a game plan and fought for their lives we just could not punish them and some players need to look at themselves because they were very poor and didn’t even look league one standard ...Missing key players was a major blow but no excuses we should be better than that.”

mactheblade added: “Very disappointing today. It was the “old heads” who did the damage - Howard & Humphries. No excuses - should have delivered the goods with the team we put out.”

Meanwhile Flotter on thestar.co.uk said it was a welcome change in fortune for the Owls that referee Mick Russell blundered at the John Smith’s Stadium: “I can’t believe taht our luck finally changes & everybody suddenly wants referees to either be punished for their mistakes or have games replayed.

“I hope Dave has got his list ready because we have had actual result changing mistakes made against us in at least 5 games and a couple of games where we might have got more points if the ref had made the right decision.

“Let’s replay them all. We could possibly end up top.”
