Sheffield’s Jonny Marray will be forced to sit on the sidelines this week as the rest of the world’s best players take part in the Madrid Masters Series event.
Marray’s regular doubles partner, Colin Fleming, is unable to take part because of injury and the Wimbledon champion hasn’t been able to arrange a new teammate for the tournament.
In the singles Great Britain’s Andy Murray is the third seed behind Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.
Spain’s David Ferrer and Rafa Nadal are fourth and fifth seeds respectively.
Marray will play either Marinko Matosevic or Florian Mayer in the last 32.
