Sheffield’s Jonny Marray and doubles partner Colin Fleming are still hoping to play in the ATP Masters Series in Cincinnati this week.
The British pair’s ranking wasn’t high enough to qualify outright and they also didn’t have any luck with the ‘signing on’ lottery, but they have remaining in Ohio in case any of the other teams withdraw through injury or illness.
The Western & Southern Open is one of nine Masters Series events on the ATP calendar. They are just below grand slams in terms of ranking points and prize money.
If Marray and Fleming don’t gain entry then they will travel to North Carolina later this week for the Winston Salem Open.
It will be their final tournament before the US Open in New York City, which starts on August 26.
