Jonny Marray says his first round opponents at the Shanghai Masters today represent a tough challenge.
Sheffield’s Marray and doubles partner Colin Fleming were forced to retreat to practice courts indoors as yesterday’s play was mostly washed away by torrential rain.
But it did give the British pair extra time to prepare for America’s Scott Lipsky and Mexico’s Santiago Gonzalez.
Marray said: “They’re a tough team.
“We lost to them in Winston-Salem the week before the US Open this year.
“They are dangerous but hopefully we compete hard and play well and get the win.”
Victory for Marray and Fleming would see them take on second seeds Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez of Spain in the last 16.
In the latest ATP doubles team rankings Marray and Fleming have moved up one place to 17th.
Individually Marray, aged 32, has fallen one place to 29th and Fleming, aged 29, has also slipped down the rankings by two spots to 20th.
