EIGHTEEN year-old James Milligan became one of the youngest winners of Doncaster Lawn Tennis Club’s Closed men’s open singles title. He beat fellow teenager, 16 year-old Jake Prime, 6-4, 6-1 in Sunday’s final.
Prime, who partnered his dad Steve, also tasted defeat in the men’s handicap doubles. Martin Proctor and Mark Bennett dishing out a straight sets 6-3, 6-1 beating.
Proctor also triumphed in the men’s handicap singles, beating teenager Ed Morris 6-0, 6-4. Partnering tournament organiser Steve Fairham, Milligan was on the end of a 6-4, 6-3 result against Dave Rainey and Mick Hague in the men’s open doubles. Hague joined forces with fellow club coach Liz Beaton to serve up a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 win over Dave Cole and Pat Binstead in the mixed open doubles. Beaton also partnered Lucy Wright to a resounding 6-1, 6-2 win over Binstead and Jayne Hale in the ladies’ open doubles.
Binstead partnered youngster Molly Jenkins to a 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 victory over Wendy Gray and Christine Knowles in the ladies’ handicap doubles. Nicky Davis and Tom Orme netted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Ricky Moglia and Jo Waite in the mixed handicap doubles
