City of Sheffield swimmer Eleanor Faulkner finished second in the final of the 400m freestyle but agonisingly missed out on the Barcelona World Championship qualifying time.

Jaz Carlin set a new personal best of 4.04.25 minutes as she took gold and in the process booked her plane ticket to Barcelona but needing to duck under 4.08.73 to join her British rival in Spain; Faulkner could manage only 4.09.07.

Meanwhile, Rebecca Turner produced a competitive showing in the final of the 100m freestyle as she finished third but British golden girl Fran Halsall dominated the race from start to finish, clocking 54.82 seconds.

Matt Johnson may be on the way to the European Junior Championships next week; but the Sheffield swimmer was unable to book his senior ticket to the World equivalent in Spain.

Roberto Pavoni took the gold medal in the 400m individual medley.

Unfortunately Johnson could manageonly fourth, despite a strong backstroke leg, finishing in 4.17.31 minutes.

City of Sheffield Nicholas Grainger produced a solid performance in the final of the 1500m.

Grainger clocked 15.24.93 minutes as he trailed home in fifth spot.
