CITY of Sheffield’s Olympic Games swimmers Ellie Faulker and Beckie Turner have been warming up for later this summer with some solid performances at the Barcelona leg of the Mare Nostrum series this weekend.
Former pupil at Westbourne school and All Saints school student Faulker, aged 19, finished sixth in the 800 metres freestyle in a time of 8 minutes 46.09 seconds as double-Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington convincingly won the race.
Turner, also aged 19, who was a student at Wickersley school in Rotherham, was ninth in the 200m freestyle.
Yesterday City of Sheffield’s Matt Johnson finished second in the 400m individual medley behind Italy’s Luca Marin in 4:20.38 and Pavoni the bronze in 4:20.41. This followed Johnson’s bronze on Saturday in the 200m Butterfly.
The final British Olympic trials are at Ponds Forge later this month - June 21-23.
