DONCASTER Dartes’ Joe Litchfield struck gold in the first North East Regional Age Group Championships at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge.

The 13-year-old left rivals trailing in his wake in the 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke and 400m individual medley. He also picked up a silver in the 200m butterfly.

Shannon Dodson (14) was also in fine form, touching home in first place in the 100m backstroke and the 200m freestyle.

Mark Beech, aged 12, defended his champion status in the 100m backstroke to claim the title for the third year running. He also finished in the silver medal position in the 1500m freestyle.

Matthew Jubb, 11, won a bronze medal in the 200m freestyle.

Alex Pollard, 13, picked up a fourth National qualifying time (NQT) when finishing in the bronze medal position in the 400m individual medley. He also picked up a bronze in the 1500m freestyle.

Natasha Crow, 13, won a bronze medal in 200m butterfly after showing strength and determination in her final length. She missed out on a NQT by just 1.13 seconds. Chantelle Waugh (10) won a bronze medal in the 400m individual medley.

In the team events, Joe Litchfield, Jarvis Parkinson, George Scatchard and Alex Pollard stormed to victory in both the 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle finals - emulating their older team-mates, who won the 4x100m freestyle and medley titles at the Youth Championships last month.
