Stoke City offer £2.5m for Beattie
STOKE City have offered £2.5 million for Sheffield United striker James Beattie.
The former England international, who has scored 12 goals so far this season, is believed to have travelled to Staffordshire for talks with the Premiership club.
But sources at the Britannia Stadium report that the deal - which, if completed, would stun the Bramall Lane supporters - has hit a stumbling block.
It is not currently known if Beattie will feature against Norwich City tomorrow afternoon.
Stoke boss Tony Pulis has already bolstered his squad this week with the acquisition of Matthew Etherington.
Stoke have been dropping down the table after taking just three points from a possible 18.
But Blades' fans will want reassurances about the direction their club is going in as they seek Premier League football themselves.
The former England international, 30, who joined the Blades for 4m from Everton in 2007, has scored 12 goals in the Championship this season.
