Steel City duo progress

Sheffield's Steel City ABC will have two representatives at the ABA Senior Novice finals in Ilford on January 23 after Caiden Onfroy and Hassan Ahmed triumphed in their respective Class A semi-finals at Scunthorpe's Redbourne Social Club last night.

In the 54kg division, Ahmed had too much class for Romi Khunti of Birmingham City ABC, earning a 13-7 victory. But as good as Ahmed's victory was, he still outshone by tattooed 67kg puncher Onfroy, who made light work of Kevin Cubbin from Liverpool's Marsh Lane Club. Only a minute had elapsed when the hapless Cubbin was halted having initially been floored by a weighty right to the head and then coming under relentless pressure.

Sheffield Lane Top ABC also had two representatives in the semi-finals but both came off second best over three rounds, 48kg boxer Waleed Din went down 10-3 at the hands of Belgrave ABC's Sheldon Purdy, whilst in a close and entertaining 57kg contest Uzair Najeeb lost out 20-16 to Sean Greenfield of the Cleary's club in Leamington.

There was disappointment too for super-heavyweight Ben Chester, of the Sheffield City Club, when in the 91kg+ category he was outpointed 20-10 by sixteen stone Alex Dickenson of the Kirkby Club in Liverpool.
