Our very own greyhound Star Grass Roots is returning to form in the grade of A7 at Owlerton Stadium.
Dropping down from the faster A6 race, which she ran the previous week, she was quick away in her latest outing but crowded at the first bend, which meant she lost valuable ground.
Dave Perry, general manager at Owlerton, said: “It is great to see Star Grass Roots finding her form again in A7. She looks much more confident again, and if it wasn’t for the crowding, we could have been celebrating her second win of the season.
“We know she can already win in this grade, so hopefully she will get her nose in front again soon.”
Owlerton is now gearing up to host the only tri-distance race of its kind in the greyhound racing calendar - the Coors Light 3 Steps to Victory final, which will be shown live on Sky Sports.
The event is run over three distances at Owlerton. The first leg, on June 10, is contested over 480m and the semi-finals, taking place on June 17, are run over 500m before the 600m final on 24 June.
Dave added: “We are delighted to be hosting this unique and prestigious event. It’s always an exciting night out at Owlerton, but when the TV cameras are in the stadium there is an extra buzz.
“Last year, it attracted more than 1,000 people and we’re expecting another bumper crowd to turn for the final of this popular event.”
