Star Grass Roots recorded her best ever A6 position to finish second with another strong performance at Owlerton Greyhound Stadium.

In her last three races, our greyhound has finished 4th, 3rd and 2nd, beaten by a distance of a neck.

She recorded a time of 30.46 - an improvement on last week – and sent a clear message that she’s found her stride in the faster A6 category.

Sam Tweed, racing manager at

Owlerton acing manager Sam Tweed said: “These are very encouraging signs.

“After an up and down few months, she has really started to settle in A6. She’s finished 4th, 3rd and now 2nd in her last three outings so hopefully the pattern continues and she can claim her first A6 victory.

“She led from the final bend until right near the winning line where, in the end, she was only beaten by a neck. Things are really looking up and we hope she can roll this new found form into next week.”

* Owlerton has launched a new fundraising scheme for local sports clubs.

The Sporting League offers clubs the chance to raise more than £400 and enjoy a night out at the dogs.

Each team receives 50 free admissions, racecard and drink tickets to sell for £5 each with all proceeds going to the club.

On the night, teams get points for predicting the most 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in six set races. The team with the highest number of points overall wins a free night at the dogs for up to 30 people which they can charge for.

The scheme is open to all sports. For more information or to enter the League call the marketing department on 0114 234 3047 or visit www.owlertonstadium.co.uk.
