ST MARY'S A are making a strong bid to retain their Doncaster & District Table Tennis League Premier Division title with two wins in out of three.
They inflicted the first defeat on Pegler A when serving up an 8-2 win.
Steve Wathey led the way with a hat-trick of wins in the singles. He received good support from Dave Heppenstall and Steve Morris, who both chipped in with a brace.
They then beat their B team 7-3 with Heppenstall leading the way with a hat-trick of wins. He also linked up with Greg Barker, who checked in with a brace, to take the doubles
Sarah Noutch claimed two of the B team's consolation wins.
Second-placed Blaxton became the first team to lower St Mary's colours, netting a 6-4 win.
Blaxton's Andy Kelly won all his three singles games with Mark Willerton chipping in with two and Clive Mitchell completing their tally.
Heppenstall (2) and Barker were responsible for the three St Mary's singles wins and they also teamed up to take the doubles.
Blaxton had to come from behind to beat YMCA B 6-4.
Blaxton opened up an early 2-1 lead but YMCA hit back to lead 3-2.
Three successive wins saw Blaxton storm into a 5-3 lead, but Phil Beresford pulled it back to 5-4 with his third win. Andy Dibdin won the vital tenth rubber to secure the spoils for Blaxton.
Kelly and Mick Harris shared four singles wins for Blaxton plus the doubles. Colin Airey completed YMCA's tally.
YMCA A pipped their B team 6-4 in a tight match.
The A team raced into a 3-1 lead and also led 4-2 and 5-3. Airey won an excting five-set ninth rubber to close the gap to one 5-4. Mick Dainty beat Beresford to collect his third win of the night to decide the game.
Gareth Cole chipped in with a double with Dhru Karwa winning one of his three rubbers.
Beresford won two singles for the B team in addition to taking the doubles with Brian Davis.
Superdrug continue to set the pace at the top of Division One along with YMCA D, who have played a game more.
They ended the Wood Street club's 100 per cent record when netting a 7-3 win.
Tom Piddock starred for Superdrug, winning all three singles and teaming up with Neil Mallinson, who won two of his three singles, to take the doubles. Graham Hopkins completed their tally.
John Stephenson (2) and Keith Lyne shared out the three consolation rubbers.
St Mary's C find themselves six points behind the leaders in fourth place but they are still unbeaten and have at least three games in hand of the teams above them.
Their tally of wins include a 9-1 victory over Bircotes MW B. John Wikinson and Daniel Ferguson both posted 100 per cent returns from their singles rubbers with Conor Morris weighing in with a double.
Wilkinson and Ferguson teamed up to take the doubles.
Alan Love prevented a whitewash.
YMCA F have also made a good start to the season, losing only to Superdrug and their D team.
They beat Hexthorpe 8-2 with Ruth Morgan and Soham Karwa both boasting 100 per cent returns from their three singles. Edward Heald won two of his three games.
Doug Atkins beat Heald with Andrew Glynn and Lee Potter teaming up to claim the doubles.
YMCA D continued their challenge with three successive 10-0 wins and a 7-3 success over their E team.
Keith Lynes led the way with a hat-trick of wins in the singles. Gordon Lucas (2) and Harry Sargeant added another three between them with Lucas and Lynes taking the doubles.
Ken Ford (2) and Chris Simpson shared out the E team's consolation rubbers.
