Sheffield’s Nick Matthew moved safely through tot he last of the Qatar Classic in Doha with a 3-0 victory over Botswana’s Alister Walker yesterday in his first match since winning his third world title earlier this month.

The 33-year-old Hallamshire squash club-based Matthew was pushed hard by Walker, who is ranked World No 15, but eventually held him off 11/8, 11/7, 12/10 in 42 minutes.

World No 4 Matthew, seeded third for the tournament will now play Miguel Angel Rodriguez in the last 16 this evening.
