Defending champion Nick Matthew moved through to the quarter-finals of the World Squash Championship in Qatar last night.
The 34-year-old beat India’s Saurav Ghosal 11-4 11-5 6-11 11-9 to book a last-eight clash with four-time winner Amr Shabana.
Matthew, the third seed, said: “I need to go away and learn from tonight’s match and come back tomorrow and do what I didn’t do in the third and fourth. The higher the player’s ranking, they will punish you more and more.”
Matthew’s long-standing coach, David Pearson, is backing the Sheffield star to up his game against Shabana.
“He has prepared mentally and physically is in great shape,” insisted Pearson.
