World number one Nick Matthew brushed aside wildcard Alan Clyne in the first round of the Canary Wharf Classic last night.

The top seed, from Sheffield, beat the Scot 11-6, 11-7, 11-5 at the East Wintergarden venue and will face either Omar Mosaad or Karim Abdel Gawad in the last eight.
